A majestic and beautifully ornate gopuram stands high beside the Nanthi Kadal Lagoon in Mullaitivu. The Vattrāppalai Kannaki Amman Kōvil is devoted to the goddess of chastity, rain and fertilization, Goddess Kannaki Amman. The site where the Hindu temple now stands is, according to the Karna Legend, allegedly the tenth and final resting place of Goddess Kannaki Amman after she arrived in Sri Lanka from Madurai.

Thousands of devotees around the country frequent the kovil, particularly during the Vaikasi Visakam celebrations. The ceremony is held annually in the month of May.

You are encouraged to wear suitable attire in par with the religious customs when visiting the kovil. All should wear non-revealing clothes, and men should remove their upper clothing before entering. Poojas are held at 7 a.m., 12 p.m. and 5 p.m daily.
