Ambewela Farm is the country’s main milk product supplier. Located in a small town named Ambewela on top of the hills about seventeen kilometers away from Nuwara Eliya. Ambewela is known for its cool climate, the temperature stays below 17 celsius throughout the year. The area is known as the widest grassland in Sri Lanka, and a perfect bird watching location.

The farm allows guided tours where you can see the caged animals and the milk production processes. The farms do have Ayrshire cattle and Friesian cows. There are many controversial comments on how the animals were treated and caged in, but it is still a popular place among the locals. You can try out the milk products at the farm's stall.

There are guided tours on how they milk the cows, process milk, make cheese, etc. The farm has cattle, goats, rabbits and stud bulls.
The train ride from Ella or Bandarawela to Ambewela is the best in the island. It passes along many wonderful strations like Haputale, Ohiya, Idalgashinna. Drive from Nuwara Eliya is also very scenic. If you don't mind public transportation and crowded trains it would be nicer to take the train.
