A buddhist meditation center for ascetic monks built near the foot of a massive rock during the 10th century under the reign of King Sena II. There are ruins of a small stupa, rock inscriptions, and chambers used by Buddhist monks. The inscriptions suggest that the temple was called Dakinigiya Viharaya and a person named Dhalatha donated 23 gold coins to provide alms for the resident bhikkhus. The temple is about 17 kilometers away from the Dambulla town.
