A magnificent Japanese style temple, with an amazing pagoda built on a small hill surrounded by the Malwatte Tea Estate in Bandarawela. The white stupa on the high ground is of most significance. The temple has an image house with many colorful japanese style Buddha statues and traditional drums.

Following the aftermath of World War II, Nichidatsu Fujii Maha Thero carried out an exercise to build peace monuments around the world promoting peace among nations. He built five Peace Pagodas in Sri Lanka, and the others are located in Galle, Walapane, Sri Pada and Ampara.

The Bandarawela Peace Pagoda was built in 1982 by Nipponzan Myohoji monks. The pagoda is located about eight kilometers away from the Bandarawela town and can be accessed via the Bandarawela - Ettampitiya road. You will have to turn at Malwatta Junction next to the Aislaby Tea Factory.
