Namunukula, “the nine peaks” is a mountain range situated at the of Badulla. It is known as the second highest peak in Uva Province and the twelfth highest in the island. Namunukula is surrounded by many tea plantations, and also a popular camping ground among many hiking enthusiasts. The trails follow through the tea plantations leading to the top of the massif, and then goes through the thick forest at the top. Make sure to take a lot of water, leech protections, flash lights and snacks. The hike is not easy, after the trails you are on your own basically and it is easy to get lost in the jungle so better take maps, and compasses, and an extra powerbank for your mobile phones.

From the top of the summit you’d see the amazing views of the surrounding mountains and plains. Be sure to visit the summit as early as possible for the best views. Like the other peaks of Uva, Namunukula gets covered in mist during the day. You can see Ella, Badulla and Passara, and Bambaragala Patana areas from the top.

The easiest route to reach is to take the Badulla - Spring Valley road and follow through the sign posted trails, through the tea plantations.
