A long narrow estuarine lagoon stretched out from Eravur, Batticaloa to Kalmunai in Ampara district. The lagoon is 56 kms long and 200 meter wide with an area of 11,500 ha filled with brackish water. You can do boat rides, kayaking, swan paddle boating, explore birds and explore the rich lagoon ecosystem.

The Batticaloa Lagoon is known as a very diversified ecosystem with magnificent birds. The beautiful landscape gives stunning views in the sunset, it's one of those recently uncovered most photographed places. There are 8 islands in the lagoon, and Palanmeenmadu, Bone Island & Buffalo island are the most highlighted.

Boat rides through the lagoon would cost about 4, 000 to 6, 000 LKR, which covers the Kallady Bridge, Batticaloa Fort, Gandhi Park, Eco Park and the islands of the lagoon. Best to check out in the evenings, and take photos in the pre-sunset.
