What better way to experience an island that to stand at a shore and gaze into the vast embodiment of water that surrounds you.

Visit the Galle Face Green… an esplanade in the heart of Colombo and experience a taste of what the island has to offer.

A gentle breeze blows in from the Indian ocean as the area lights up with life; Families with little children come to play on the green and savour a night snack form the many vendors. Favourite delicacies being the Isso Vadai (spicy patty made with a prawn) and the assortment of rotties (local pancakes, normally spicy) offered at the famous Naan’s Kade (shop).

Colours fill the late evening sky as kites go up in August for the kite season; Young ones racing each other trying to get the best spot on the green. As couples float along, oblivious to those who surround, some even venturing to the beach to wet their feet. One may not be able to escape the energy that flows in the air as the entire expanse bussels with life… if it does prove to be too en-powering just stroll along the walk, away for the green, towards the Ceylon Continental Hotel. Where nothing but the soothing sound of the waves clashing on rocks and rippling onto the shore is guaranteed to transport you into a tranquilising bliss.
